Alma Doepel & AWA Alliance Bank Partnering to Assist with the Restoration Project
- 15 May 2018
A dedicated team of volunteers and shipwrights are restoring the 1903-built tall ship, Alma Doepel to return her to vital youth sail training role.
During the years 1988-1999, Alma Doepel provided sail and ship-handling training for about 2,500 young people.
It is planned that when the ship is once again gracing the waters of Port Phillip, the young people of Victoria will have access to a world-class youth leadership and education program through Alma. This program will be closely linked to Australia's National Curriculum and provide participants with a multifaceted learning experience.
Sail & Adventure Limited, owners of Alma Doepel have embarked on an ambitious plan to refit the ship so that she can regain her Victorian commercial (passenger-carrying) survey certification and, once again, earn her own keep. They have been working extremely hard to ensure Alma Doepel is restored to her former glory and returned to the water from her dry dock in early 2019.
AWA Alliance Bank (AWA) along with Sail and Adventure Ltd has formed a strategic partnership to ensure the long term viability of Alma Doepel. In return for AWA’s support, family, friends, work colleagues and associates of Alma Doepel are encouraged to speak to AWA about their banking needs.
